London records lowest homicide rate in 11 years

New data from the Metropolitan Police show that there were 97 homicides recorded in London in 2025, which is 10.2 per cent less than in 2024. This is the lowest level in over a decade.

In the English and Welsh legal systems, homicides are divided into several categories depending on the intent and circumstances of the crime. These are: intentional murder, manslaughter (unintentional), infanticide and corporate manslaughter. The data presented take all these types into account.

The peak in homicides in the city occurred in 2019, after which the number of cases began to decrease.

The decline in homicides coincides with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. At the same time, London's population has grown by more than 500,000 since 2014, making the record low in 2025 even more remarkable.
